It's there for you to instantly identify when a clip is AI-generated but it may or may not be something you want in the final export, particularly if you're directing, prompting and own an AI-generated clip.

This tool will detect that watermark on each frame and eliminate it, so that you can get back the same video as restored: without audio, with the same resolution, frame rate, bitrate.

The specifics, upfront:

• Video only. It's a video-centric tool and can't be used for still images.
• Video by video. No batch queue. This allows for each file to be processed independently and not have to apply a generic fix to an entire folder, thus maintaining accurate frame tracking.

One remedy is a watermark on a still image that is applied once. The watermark on a video is both a moving target, meaning it can be stationary, while the video footage moves, or it can move slightly between frames, if the video was exported that way. A simple method (by blurring one corner, or by using a fixed crop) will either leave a smear where the motion has gone under the mark or will simply cut off the end of the strip altogether.

Keeping track of the mark per frame and only re-generating that section of the video, as opposed to the entire corner of the video, keeps the result from looking like a “patchy” video when played back, not viewed as a single frame.

The downside is the 50MB limit — this is a tool designed to tell you the truth, which means that it has a limit on how much local memory it can use to process a file and if it fails to process it just a little bit, then it fails.

It is typically easy to delete a visible watermark that you've created and directed yourself. It becomes more sensitive when the intent is to show footage that is not AI-generated but which looks like it — be it real footage, someone else's work or evidence of an event that didn't occur. The visible watermark was added to mark content created by AI and not intended to be automatic, but it would be wise to say clearly that the on-screen watermark is meant to indicate that the content was created by AI, and if a platform or a client demands such a disclosure, omitting the watermark from the screen does not take the obligation away. This tool also only affects the visible mark, and doesn't impact invisible marks like SynthID (which are in the video data itself, and meant to be preserved in normal editing).
